God’s grace, limited gifts, presence and commandments

Filed under: reflections and inspirations — joycedanao at 5:31 am on Wednesday, April 30, 2008

Husband_appreciation_day_edited1When something is finally in our hands and we lose it, we are sad and disappointed. We ask why it has to slip away from our grasp.
Perhaps it’s because we need to loosen up and let God give us some more of his blessings. For it is only when our hands are open that we can truly receive God’s grace.

- Catherine of Siena was only 33 when she died. But she had helped restore peace among kings. She had persuaded the Pope to return to his rightful place in Rome. She had shared wisdom to many who came seeking consolation.
Our limited gifts bear much fruit when we allow God to work His wonders with them.

April 28, ‘08
- We experience our daily share of persecution. Often it’s from ourselves: our pains, struggles and sinful habits. But Jesus assures us that He will send us a Helper. This is the Spirit of Truth who keeps us from stumbling and falling away.
How have you felt this helping presence in your life?

April 27, ‘08
- Whoever keeps my commandments is the one who loves me.’
It’s easy to ‘keep’ God’s commands by simply obeying rules and avoiding sin. But that’s not really loving but playing it safe. Ask yourself: ‘What more can I do to help?’ That’s when God’s commands truly keep us.

April 25, ‘08- Out of the dry, solid rock, sweet water flows. Out of 5 fish and 5 loaves, abundant food satisfies the hungry crowd.
The Lord has always filled His people with many good things. In times of great need, even when everything points to the impossible, His hand provides. God is a God of abundance.

April 24, ‘08- Maybe I’m not making big changes in the world but if I have somehow helped or encouraged someday along the journey then I’ve done what I’m called to do.! - these are words of a cancer victim.
How are you using your gifts? Do you give back? Lord, teach me to see everyday as an opportunity to make good.

TAURIAN’S BIBLE BLOGVERSARRY

Filed under: Reflections — joycedanao at 5:18 pm on Wednesday, April 23, 2008

Thbible_image2Our frustrations tell us how unfree we are. We get disappointed and angry when our plans and our powers are upset, when things don’t go as we would have wanted it. We’re led to examine ourselves: Who is all this ultimately for?
May we not forget we are branches. We can’t bear fruit apart from our Vine.

April 22, ‘08- Jesus proclaims peace. His words and actions bring peace to those distressed in body and spirit: the hungry crowd, adulterous woman, leper, women at the tomb.
Forgiveness, healing, kindness, consolation - these bring peace to the human heart.

Find ways to give yourself to others as a sign of Peace.

Lord Amid our clutter

Filed under: scriptures — joycedanao at 7:06 pm on Monday, April 21, 2008

Sometimes our hearts can be like a crammed store room. It’s filled with piles and bundles of excess. Some are old and broken things we can’t get rid of. So we keep hiding them away.
We must then put things in order and tidy up our hearts.
We need to make room for the Lord amid our clutter.

April 20, 08 - What are your main concerns now? Thinking of the things we have to accomplish can overwhelm us. It’s then that we catch ourselves setting out on our own.
Jesus says: ‘Do not be troubled, trust in God and trust in me.’ (Jn 14:1)
We find the peace that calms our fears when we put Jesus in the picture.

April 19, 08 - Padre Pio became a saint not because of the wounds in his hands, or his gift of healing and foresight. But because he allowed the Lord to work wonders through his person. This is the secret of holiness. We become more like the Father when we let Him live in us and lead us - that’s a miracle!

Right path and hospitality

Filed under: Reflections — joycedanao at 1:22 am on Friday, April 18, 2008

It happens that as we travel on our road, we lose sight of familiar landmarks. We so not see any signs ahead of us.
In times like this, we must not fear. There’s something in us to help find our way. We only have to be still and listen to the voice within us. It will give us the right directions.

April 17, ‘08
- The tradition of hospitality risks dying out in our modern age. We’re too busy to let anyone in our doors. We’re too cautious to talk to strangers.
Let’s recall Jesus’ word on welcoming those He sends us, we welcome Him. Find time today to truly welcome others into your life.

Doubts and Sacrifice

Archbishop Oscar Romero was a soft-spoken man who would rather be on the safe side. But the sufferings of his people and the killing of his friend changed him. He became a fearless champion of the poor and was persecuted in El Salvador. He was shot while celebrating Mass, giving his life for his friends.

We are sheep, weak and wandering, often scattering ourselves. But we have a Shepherd who always calls us, leading us to green pastures and still waters, keeping us safe from harm.
Have we listen to His voice in the past week?
As we celebrate Good Shepherd Sunday, let’s gather and grace at His feet.Bestbloggingbuddiesaward

Bread of Life

Filed under: Reflections — joycedanao at 3:55 am on Friday, April 11, 2008

When we celebrate the Eucharist, we celebrate what we’re called to be: like the Lord, bread for others. We bring from the Father the gift of life. We are to share it to fill the many hungers around us, to nourish those broken in body and spirit.
How do you share the bread of life you have received?A_rose

Outstanding

April 10, 2008 - Fr. Alloysius Schwartz had a dream. He wanted to give a bright future to children who had none. So he founded Boystown and Girlstown to educate the children of poor families.
Consider your dreams. Do they allow you to think of things larger than yourself?
May I discover in my dreams your dream, Lord.

April 9, 2008 - Jesus who has come down from above now brings us uo to the Father. We who have fallen from sin are lifted up in grace.
Ask yourself: What areas in my life do I need to lift up to the Lord? Let us ask God to teach us how one might use brokenness and sinfullness to make ourselves better people.

April 8, 2008 - The Hebrews hunger for bread. So God sends manna from heaven to sustain them. God wantd to fill even our deepest hungers that he sends us through. Bread from heaven, His Son, so we will hunger no more.
We long for that which gives us life.
We are offered this life-giving bread, let us recieve it.

Celebrate God’s Promise

Filed under: BIBLE.. — joycedanao at 6:31 pm on Sunday, April 6, 2008

Sunday is a time to celebrate God’s promise. It’s a time to remember how God has fulfilled His assurance to be present to you and bless your days. It’s time to dwell in hope, knowing He leads you in the days ahead.
‘Give thanks to the Lord for he is good, for his love endures forever.’ (Ps 118:1)New_south_wales_copy
